At a glance:
The Congress Hall is the highlight of the new Rheingoldhalle and radiates festive splendour with its golden embossing. But behind the gold is sustainability: The energy-efficient renovation includes over 2000 energy-saving LEDs, a 100 kWp photovoltaic system, use of the municipal district heating network and improved building insulation.
A modern ventilation system ensures a pleasant indoor climate for up to 2200 people in the Congress Hall and 1200 in the Gutenberg Hall. Constant air exchange keeps the concentration of harmful aerosols low and minimizes the risk of infection.
For cooling, the hall relies on six ventilation systems with indirect evaporative cooling – a climate-friendly method that extracts heat through water evaporation. In this way, the Rheingoldhalle combines modern design with sustainability and safety.

After three years of renovation, the KUZ Kulturzentrum Mainz was reopened in 2018 and comprehensively modernized. Most of the lighting has been converted to energy-efficient LED technology, and the building is powered entirely by green electricity.
The installed sound system comes from d&b audiotechnik GmbH & Co. KG, which is known for its resource-saving remanufacturing process.
Thanks to its central location, the KUZ – like all four mainzplus event venues in the city centre – can be easily reached on foot, by bike or by public transport. In addition, an e-charging station for company vehicles and bicycle parking spaces are available directly at the house.
"Responsible and sustainable action is a matter of course for the Hyatt Regency Mainz. For us, sustainability means not only the careful use of available resources but also trusting cooperation with all our stakeholders and honest, approachable cooperation in our local environment. For our commitment, we have been awarded the second highest sustainability level by the GreenSign Institute. We are even more pleased about the partnership with mainzplus GmbH, which goes far beyond classic city marketing - with a clear focus on sustainable thinking and responsible action. Together, we are shaping a sustainable tourism and event landscape in which ecological, social and economic values are in harmony."
Sustainability as a corporate philosophy
Sustainability
is a central component of our corporate philosophy for us at
audiluma. We focus on environmentally friendly solutions and
are continuously committed to minimizing our ecological
footprint. We are currently taking the biggest step on our
new building in Mainz with the help of a timber construction
method and the implementation of a larger photovoltaic
system.
Sustainable materials & resource
conservation
When selecting our materials, we
consistently pay attention to sustainability. We prefer
reusable components in modular design that can be customized
and yet can be used several times. This not only reduces
material consumption, but also significantly reduces the
waste generated. Especially in classic trade fair
construction, the consumption of resources is often no
longer up to date – here we are setting new standards.
We also focus on sustainability and Made in Germany with our manufacturers, such as our sound systems from d&b audiotechnik and the lighting technology from JB Lighting.
In everyday office life, we largely dispense with paper and rely on digital solutions. At events and in the warehouse, we only use reusable PET water bottles and pay attention to strict waste avoidance. Our team is constantly on the lookout for innovative, even more sustainable product alternatives, which we regularly test and add to our portfolio if suitable.
Transport optimisation & regional cooperation
The
close cooperation with mainzplus GmbH offers us
significant ecological advantages due to the geographical
proximity. The short distances enable us to significantly
reduce transport journeys and thus minimise CO₂ emissions.
Through careful planning and bundling of our transports, we
optimize routes and avoid unnecessary trips. The ability to
store and reuse equipment and materials on site also
conserves valuable resources.
Together for more sustainability
We particularly
appreciate the cooperation with mainzplus GmbH
because we share common values in terms of sustainable
action. The cooperative partnership enables us to further
develop and implement sustainable concepts together. We
perceive mainzplus GmbH's commitment to
sustainability as authentic and future-oriented – a
foundation on which we are happy to build."
"FUTURE WINES – Sustainability in viticulture rethought
Wine is more than a luxury food – it is a cultural asset that shapes regions and creates identity. But viticulture is facing major challenges: climate change, extreme weather conditions and new pests require a rethink. As an initiative of ZUKUNFTSWEINEN, this is exactly where we come in: Our goal is to make viticulture fit for the future through innovative, climate-adapted grape varieties – for healthier vineyards, more biodiversity and sustainable cultivation.
New grape varieties as the key to a sustainable wine
world
That's why we focus on new, climate-resistant
grape varieties that are less susceptible to extreme weather
conditions and pests. These "world rescuers" require less
plant protection, protect soils and biodiversity, and reduce
CO2 pollution by using fewer machines. Thanks to their more
resistant nature, such as a thicker berry skin, they are
also less susceptible to diseases such as grape rot. One
example of this is the Souvignier Gris grape variety, which
drastically reduces the use of pesticides due to its natural
resistance. Our goal is to promote healthy soils and create
self-sustaining vineyards that ensure the quality and future
viability of wine in the long term.
Advancing sustainability together
Our movement supports
winegrowers with know-how and practical solutions to
implement sustainable cultivation methods economically
successfully. In doing so, we promote an open exchange
between conventional and organic viticulture – because every
step towards more sustainability counts. Sustainability can
only be successful in a network. That's why we appreciate
the cooperation with mainzplus GmbH, which is
actively committed to environmentally friendly tourism and
event concepts and thus supports initiatives like ours that
drive change.
Together for a green wine region
Already 4.4% of
the wine sold in Germany comes from ZUKUNFTSWEINEN – a
promising start. But our goal is clear: to inspire even more
winegrowers for sustainable solutions and actively shape the
future of wine by spreading know-how – because anyone can
already plant sustainable grape varieties. Together with
partners such as mainzplus GmbH, we are driving
this change forward – for a sustainable, liveable wine
region that future generations can also enjoy."
"The topic of sustainability has been part of every step of our work for years. In our catering concept, we always try to reconcile our standards of quality and sustainability. This is easy to do with many regional partners who share our passion. So, we get the majority of our fruit and vegetable delivery from six farms in Rheinhessen – ordered in the evening, delivered the next morning. The focus of our menus is always on a vegan basis that is geared to the season. Meat & fish we only see variable toppings. For example, our popular vegan coconut curry with sweet potato & mint yoghurt has prevailed at large congresses – optionally lemon chicken is available. You can only control and adapt the content of your dishes and menus if you prepare and produce everything yourself, even for large quantities – this is a matter close to our hearts. Despite the most accurate calculation possible, certain quantities of food remain at large events. With two partner locations in the Rhine-Main area, we keep pigs and chickens together, which are happy about the leftover food. In this way, we try to reduce the useless throwing away of food as much as possible.
Ultimately, we appreciate the close cooperation with our partners here in beautiful Mainz. We are happy about every event with the Mainzplus team in the kurfürstlichen Schloss or the Rheingoldhalle. Due to the proximity of our production facility in the RLP state parliament, we shorten all delivery routes and thus set CO2 emissions to a minimum, for example. We always get the impression that with strong partners who are open to new ideas, you can make a difference in the area of sustainability without the customer having to sacrifice quality."
"For Finizio, participating in Summer in the City means a big step, because for the first time we are bringing the blueprint for the recycling of dry toilet contents from Eberswalde to the Rhineland! We see particularly great potential for dry toilets at major events here. Of course, this transfer is only possible with the help of great cooperation partners. That is why we are particularly pleased about the cooperation with "Holy Shit" and the "DLR" in Cologne. Holy Shit collects the collected solids from the toilets in its hygienisation container, which is then recycled into fertile humus fertiliser, while the urine is transported to nearby DLR for research purposes."
